WASPA Membership: Costs, Policy and Guidelines
1. To qualify as a WASPA member
In order to qualify as a member of the organisation, you must be in the business of providing Wireless application services as determined by the Constitution and the WASPA Management Committee upon registration.
Services may include but are not limited to content provision over mobile devices, as well as provision of any facilities that facilitate or enable transport of data over public mobile networks. Content may include information and any commerce-related services.
2. Membership categories
There are two categories of WASPA membership, each of which pays a different membership fee:
- Full membership
- Affiliate membership
To qualify for full membership, it is a pre-requisite to have at least one connection and hence a direct contract with a South African mobile network operator.
An organisation with a connection to a network may not make application for the affiliate category.
The affiliate category has been created for information service providers who do not have a direct connection to any of the mobile network operators. If a WASP is paid any revenue for WASP services directly by the networks, then they do not qualify for affiliate membership, and are required to apply for full membership
Affiliate members are not entitled to vote, as determined in clause 7.5 of the Constitution.
There are no other differences in the benefits accruing to the two categories.
3. Membership fees
- Full membership: R2,600.00 (excluding VAT) per month
- Affiliate membership: R1,300.00 (excluding VAT) per month
Note:
- Fees listed above are effective from 1 August 2013
- Membership fees for South African based members of WASPA are billed monthly. Because of significant Forex fees charged on monthly payments, membership fees for members from other countries are billed annually in advance.
